Inline Pressure Balanced Expansion Joints is composed of a middle working wave, small balance waves at both ends, a connecting pipe, a shift change, and a balance rod. The balance rod can also be in two structural forms: threaded rod and welded plate. The main difference between threaded pull rods and welded pull plates during use is that threaded pull rods can adjust the natural length of the working wave and balance wave, while welded pull plates prevent the welding fixed wave band from freely expanding and contracting.
The balance of internal pressure thrust in the Inline Pressure Balanced Expansion Joints mainly relies on the fact that the diameter of the balance wave is twice that of the working wave. In this way, the axial thrust caused by the internal pressure on the outer side of the working wave is offset by the thrust in the opposite direction caused by the internal pressure on the balance corrugated pipe through the balance rod, and there is no axial thrust output yet. The pipeline or equipment is no longer subjected to axial thrust. In the normal process of compensating displacement, its own force balance relationship remains unchanged.
These joints are usually installed at change of direction. They may also be designed for in line operation.The complexity of the in-line pressure balanced expansion joint makes it an expensive unit . It's use can be justified economically only in those cases where the problems created by the pressure loading would be even more expensive.
